Urban Brass Festival

The third Urban Brass Festival in Innsbruck

Strafiato is an international festival for urban brass music and will take place in Innsbruck for the third time in 2026. From May 1 to 3, the city will transform into a stage for music, encounters, discussion, and creative expression—right in the heart of public spaces, open to everyone, free of charge, and loud!

The Streetnoise Orchestra welcomes seven other street bands with a total of over 200 musicians from Italy, France, Belgium, and Germany, who bring their art to Innsbruck in the form of loud concerts, sharp lyrics, and impressive performances. Diversity, solidarity, and joie de vivre are the driving forces behind this energetic festival beyond the mainstream. A musical declaration of love for life and democracy.

The entire festival is organized on a volunteer basis, collectively, and with a clear goal: culture for all!

You can help us!

To successfully organize the Strafiato Festival despite reduced official funding, we rely on your direct financial support. That’s why we’re launching another crowdfunding campaign this year with great rewards: https://innsbruck.welocally.at/crowdfunding/strafiato-2026

To pull off such a large-scale project, we are very grateful not only for monetary support but also for every helping hand. Be a part of the festival and help make it an unforgettable event. Here you’ll find more information on how you can help us.

May 1st Demonstration

May 1st has historically been a day of struggle for workers’ rights, social justice, and international solidarity.

We will be participating in the May 1st march in Innsbruck (starting around 11:30 a.m.).

Tag der Kulturarbeit

May 2 marks the Day of Cultural Work (Tag der Kulturarbeit, TdK) — an initiative that draws attention to the precarious situation of arts and cultural work in Innsbruck.

This is about concrete local realities: working conditions, lost spaces, budget cuts, and the question of how much value culture holds in this city.

Planned events:

  • 1:00 PM: Rally at Leipzigerplatz
  • Joint demonstration march
  • Our own musical interventions along official street music venues

On this day, we combine music with local cultural-political realities. We make it clear that art and culture are not marginal phenomena, but rather part of social discourse.

Concerts in St. Bartlmä, Halle 5

On May 1 and 2, starting at 8:00 p.m., all eight brass bands will perform concerts in St. Bartlmä, Halle 5. Two evenings full of energy and international flair! Admission is free, and donations are welcome!

May 3 – Global Responsibility / Sustainability

This Sunday, we’re linking our local and international struggles with global responsibility.

We’re partnering with the feld:schafft association to kick off the season at Weltacker—a project that highlights global resource distribution and demonstrates how closely ecological and social issues are intertwined.

Environmentally friendly travel

Choose sustainable modes of travel to get to the festival: by public transport, bicycle, or on foot. Together, we can make the concert evenings not only melodious but also climate-friendly! Carpooling is also a great way to save resources and arrive together. As a Green Event, we want to show that celebration and sustainability go wonderfully together. Thank you for helping to make our festival more climate-friendly!

Arriving by public transport:
Tram 1 or 6 to “Innsbruck Bergisel”
Regional bus 401 to “Innsbruck Basilika Wilten”

More information on www.ibv.at.

Accessibility

We look forward to seeing you all and welcoming your diverse group! The venue is accessible, and we want as many people as possible to feel comfortable here. Every journey and every visit is different—that’s why we’re open to accommodating individual needs. If you have questions about accessibility or need assistance, please feel free to contact us at orchestra@streetnoise.at. The sooner you reach out, the better we can work together to find solutions. There are also signposted parking spaces for people with disabilities near the entrance. We look forward to creating a space where music brings people together and everyone feels welcome.

Green Event Tirol

Strafiato is organized as a Green Event Tirol.

For us, this means that the way we organize a festival is itself a political act.

The climate crisis is exacerbating social inequality worldwide and is already changing the realities of life. It is not a footnote or a topic for the future—it is happening right now. Cultural events are not exempt from this responsibility either.

The climate crisis, resource consumption, and social inequality affect us all—even when we travel, celebrate, and organize events.

That’s why we strive not only to acknowledge our responsibility but to put it into practice:

We collaborate with the Foodsharing initiative, the feld:schafft association, and local businesses to reduce food waste.

All food served during the festival is exclusively vegan/vegetarian.

Our merchandise is based on secondhand clothing and upcycling rather than new production.

We consistently prioritize reusable items over single-use ones.

We organize logistics using cargo bikes as much as possible.

We want to show that collective culture can also be organized responsibly—and that environmental issues are not a side issue, but part of social justice.

What does Strafiato mean?

Strafiato, an Italian neologism, could be translated as “overblown” or “hyperventilated.” This term captures not only the immense energy of this wind ensemble event, but also its connection to the Italian “bande aperte”—which served as our inspiration and remain a source of inspiration to this day. Through their socio-political engagement, they demonstrate how art and democracy reinforce one another and can be made accessible to everyone in the public sphere.

Looking Back - Strafiato 2019 & 2023

The StreetNoise Orchestra has organized a festival twice before: in 2019 and 2023, around 200 musicians visited Innsbruck and brought the city to life with open-air concerts, political parades, and concert evenings. You can get a glimpse of it here.

Let’s experience the magic of Strafiato together!
